Help! I took pictures of the wrong car.
On the booking screen, you can tap "Take more damage control photos" and take as many photos as you need to document the car's condition.
How do I book a car?
Tap "Drive Now" if you need a car immediately (for a maximum of 24 hours) or "Reserve" for other needs. Then select a car that suits your requirements and tap "Book" at the bottom of the page.
How does damage control work?
Before you access the car and before you return it, you must submit photos of the car through the application. These photos serve as your assurance that the car is in the same condition when you return it as when you picked it up. You can take as many photos as you like before, during, and after the rental period.
I can't connect to the car.
Please check if Bluetooth and location services are enabled on your phone. If they are on and it still doesn't work, contact us at +47 22 44 49 73, and we will assist you.
Where can I park the rental car?
You can park the Hyre car wherever you like, but Hyre is not responsible for your parking during the rental period. You must pay for parking or cover any fees for improper parking of the Hyre car. If the Hyre car has a designated spot, it can remain there for free during the rental period.
In a few cases, your own private car may be parked in the Hyre car's spot during the rental period—this will be clearly marked in the app when allowed. In all other cases, ensure your private car is parked legally and pay for parking while you have the Hyre car.
Can I return the car before the agreed rental period is over?
Yes. If you have booked a car using the "Drive Now" function, you only pay for the time you have used the car. If you have booked a car using the "Reserve" function, the rental price will not be reduced even if you return the car earlier than the scheduled time.
Can I add additional drivers?
Yes, you can add as many extra drivers as you like at no cost. You can do this by selecting "Register extra driver" on the booking page in the app. The person you add as an extra driver must have a Hyre account, a valid driver's license, and must accept the rental agreement in their Hyre app.
What happens if I am delayed?
Try to extend your rental period using the "Extend rental" option on the booking screen. If you are unable to extend, please contact Hyre via chat or at +47 22 44 49 73.
I can't start the car.
One possible reason could be that the car's immobilizer has been activated. Press "Unlock" in your application and try again. Also, ensure that the car is in "Park" and that you are holding down the brake pedal.
I've received a parking ticket – what should I do?
If you are responsible for the fine, you must pay it yourself. It's always advisable to pay the fine promptly to avoid additional fees and increases from parking companies or authorities.
Can I drive to countries other than Norway?
Yes, you are free to drive to other countries in the Nordic region. Please contact us if you wish to drive to countries outside of this area.
Do I need to wash the car before returning it?
Return the car in the condition you would like to receive it. The interior of the car should always be cleaned after the rental period. If the car is very dirty, consider using a high-pressure washer at a gas station. Wash the car with soap first and then rinse with water to leave it in excellent condition for the next renter.
What happens if my phone runs out of battery or I lose it?

Can I return the car anywhere I want?
The car must be returned according to the parking instructions provided in the app. Each car typically has a designated spot where it should be picked up and returned. Some cars are located in residential parking zones (e.g., residential parking zone C), and will be clearly marked if they do not need to be returned to the same location where you found them. However, it is customary to return the car as close as possible to its original location.
You must ensure to park the car legally before ending the rental period. If you found the car parked illegally or not according to the parking instructions, you must NOT return it to the same location. Instead, park the car legally and according to the instructions provided. Otherwise, you are responsible for any parking violations.
Users bear sole responsibility for removing our vehicles from their personal parking applications if they have added them. Hyre does not provide refunds for any charges incurred due to users forgetting to remove a vehicle from their private parking app.
What should I do if the car's parking spot is not available when I need to return the car?
If the designated parking spot for the car is not available when you need to return it, please contact customer service via phone or chat. If you are returning the car outside of our operating hours, park the car legally and according to the signage in the nearest residential parking area (zone 2300 in Oslo). Then, send a chat message to customer service with information about where the car is parked so that we can register the parking and avoid fines.
When will I get back the deposit?
The deposit will be released as soon as you return the car, and we deduct charges for fuel, tolls, and any excess kilometers. If we are unable to deduct the amount directly, it will be subtracted from the deposit, and the remaining amount will be refunded to your account within 5-10 business days.
My rental balance is negative on the settlement, what does that mean?
If your settlement balance is negative, a credit voucher will be generated which you can use towards your next rental. The credit voucher will be available for use the next time you book a car, but you can choose to save it if you prefer.
When should I choose an electric car?
Electric cars are primarily suitable for shorter trips in and around urban areas. Choosing an electric car can be economical and a smart decision, but it's important to check the range information for the car you intend to rent to ensure it meets your destination needs. If you plan to travel long distances but still prefer an electric car, opt for one with a good range capability.
I can't disconnect the charging cable from the car.
To remove the charging cable from the car, press the "Unlock" button in the app twice, regardless of whether the car is already unlocked or not. This is a theft prevention measure designed to prevent unauthorized removal of the charging cable and ensure the battery remains charged.
How can I achieve the longest possible range?
Electric cars are sensitive machines, and their range can vary based on driving patterns, weather conditions, temperature, use of air conditioning, and entertainment systems in the car. Our best advice: Take your time, follow speed limits, and drive at a steady pace. High speeds and sudden acceleration significantly reduce range.
How much battery should I return the electric car with?
To ensure the next renter can start their rental without needing to charge immediately, it's appreciated if you return the car with at least 50 percent battery charge. Please refer to our terms for more information on charging.
What is the surcharge for younger drivers?
The surcharge based on the age of the youngest driver determines additional costs on rental time and kilometers:
18 years old: 30%
19 years old: 26%
20 years old: 20%
21 years old: 18%
22 years old: 16%
What does the insurance cover?
We offer one of the market's best insurance agreements for both renters and lessors, providing coverage up to 1 million Norwegian kroner. You can read the entire insurance agreement here: https://www.hyre.no/vilkar/forsikring/
Do I need to register ferry crossings?
Ferries with Autopass or manual registration are automatically added to the rental agreement. If it's not automatically registered where you take the ferry, please inform us. However, it may take some time before it's registered, and in some cases, you may receive an invoice two to three weeks after the rental period.
Do I need to return the car with a full tank of fuel?
We encourage our customers to return the car with a full tank of fuel. We calculate the number of liters in the tank before and after the rental period. If you return the car with less fuel than when you picked it up, you will be charged a per-liter fee for the missing fuel. If you return the car with more fuel, you will receive a discount per liter instead. You can view the current fuel prices in the app when you make your booking. If the discount exceeds the total rental price, you will receive a discount voucher that you can use at a later date.
What is included in the rental price?
The rental price includes insurance coverage and up to 150 kilometers of driving distance per day. The total kilometers driven are accumulated, and you are free to distribute these kilometers throughout the rental period. Fuel, tolls, and any excess kilometers are additional costs.
Do I need to register toll passages?
No, we automatically register passages through AutoPass toll booths and add these to your bill during the rental period. This applies only in Norway and not to private tolls with manual payment or AutoPay systems.
I've been in an accident – what should I do?
Ensure that the accident site is secured and the situation is clarified. Then, contact Hyre via chat or call +47 22 44 49 73 and explain the situation. If the car cannot be driven further, call roadside assistance at +47 22 44 49 73 (press 1). Roadside assistance is included in the insurance with a deductible of 500 Norwegian kroner.
